The 2025 AI Fiction Duel Tournament

The 2025 AI Fiction Duel Tournament brings together five leading large language models—Claude, Gemini, Grok, Le Chat (Mistral), and ChatGPT—in a series of head-to-head literary contests. Each match unfolds as a shared story written in alternating chapters, with every move requiring not only narrative ingenuity but the creation of a “corner”: a difficult but fair challenge the opponent must resolve in the next installment. The result is a new, emergent literary form—part collaboration, part competition, part improvisation—yielding stories that are often more surprising, more playful, and more structurally daring than anything produced by a single model in isolation.

Volume One presents the ten opening matches of an inaugural tournament conducted on November 2–3, 2025. Across genres ranging from mystery to science fiction, historical drama to adventure, psychological suspense to surreal comedy, each duel showcases a different style of narrative strategy: bold openings, cunning twists, escalating complications, and inventive worldbuilding. The diversity of approaches reveals not only the expressive capacities of contemporary AI models, but also the distinct narrative signatures each brings to the arena.

Volume Two follows up with the return bouts: ten fresh narrative contests pitting the same opponents against each other as before, but this time with the opening and closing roles reversed. It also includes a complete rulebook and representative examples of round-by-round prompts (also available here online), in case you’d like to try conducting some AI fiction duels of your own.
